silverweave: A person selects books laid out spine up from a table (Words: poop)

So here it is, my first post in Dreamwidth after migrating from LiveJournal. It feel sort of strange, almost like when I first started posting in LJ, not knowing who, if anyone would read what I wrote. More strange really, as these days without the The O.C. operating as an active fandom to tie us all together.

But things change, people change, LJ certainly changed and I know that I changed too. I don't think you're fully prepared to understand, in your early twenties, the evolution you will go through as a person over the forthcoming decade. Looking back in my mid-thirties now, it's really quite something. Back then I was still posting more frequently, and more randomly, which I rather liked and so this seems like a good opportunity to return to my roots in that regard, and quickly before I gaze too deeply into my navel.

The Edinburgh Fringe is on now, which means that the city is absolutely full of people, all hurrying between shows or standing in the street, either lost, or trying to decide where to go next. For the past few years I found it somewhat over-stimulating, a sensory overload, and avoided the Fringe as much as I could, but this year is better, and I'm hoping to catch some shows over this last week before it all disappears for another year. On the list are Mae Martin, Sondheim's Assassins*, Mark Steel, and a ballet adaptation of Death in Venice that some of my multi-talented friends from tap class are putting on.

Today, however, I'm intending to catch up with some of the films that have come out at the cinema this month. August is a very busy time for work, so it's hard to get to everything, but after working yesterday I now have Monday off, so it's a good chance to go to the pictures. The plan is a solo jaunt to Dunkirk late afternoon, hopefully followed by The Big Sick with my sister tonight, and possibly A Ghost Story tomorrow with my dad. Three out of my last four trips to the cinema have been Screen Arts performances, specifically Julius Caesar  and Angels in America I & II. All were excellent, though I am looking forward to seeing more films again. That said, next week I'm off to see the revival of Yerma starring Billie Piper, via Screen Arts. I've also got tickets to see Harriet Walter discuss Julius Caesar at the Book Festival. Last time she was up for the Book Fest she was an insightful, intelligent hoot, really warm and witty, so I'm hoping for more of the same.

Look at that! It turns out I do have a social life after all!

* Most considerately, the Fringe can always be relied upon to provide you with at least one solidly decent theatre company putting on a Sondheim production.
